Exchange Student

There's a 16 year old exchange student, Jenn, from Canada at High School #2. She's here for 2 months and is living with a Japanese host family. Jenn's Japanese 'sister' at the homestay is also at the same high school. After the two months are over Jenn's sister will move to Canada and do an exchange at Jenn's house and high school.

So now every Wednesday and Thursday when I'm at the school - the teachers pencil me in to meet with Jenn for a period. I think she's relieved to have someone to talk to in English and we're able to talk about homesickness and other issues that might pop up at school or at the homestay...

The students have been so nervous to talk to her in class - so at lunch I went to their homeroom class to eat with the class and tried to liven them up... I've also been trying to walk the halls with her and striking up chats with various students to break the ice. She's doing amazing tho!!! Especially considering she's only 16 and this is her first time being away from her family and friends.....

Last week there were exams at school and since Jenn doesn't take exams (she just attends classes like music, PE, calligraphy and has some one on one Japanese classes) they let us go on a 'field trip' to Sapporo!!!!!! yeeeee ha... it was such a good break after working long hours at HS#1. One of my Japanese English teachers came along with us (i think he was our chaperon! hahah) and the 3 of us just wandered around Sapporo showing Jenn some of the highlights...

I have some great pics from the Nijo Fish market I'll post later. but its late and i need some sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep..........
